Wear Wool, Ditch The Plastics In Your Wardrobe

Kardinia wool has been in high demand in a subdued global market attracting a premium price for our non mulesed RWS accredited wool. Sold through Fox and Lillie Corowa the European Fashion houses have fallen head over heels for 100% RWS natural wool. Unlike its synthetic cousins that are basically plastic’s lesser-known sibling, wool is the full package: it’s renewable, biodegradable, and strong enough to survive your worst laundry day. Plus, it’s eco-friendly. But wait, there’s more. Wool isn’t just a pretty face (or a cozy jumper). This magical fibre knows how to multitask. It’s naturally insulating, meaning it keeps you warm in winter but cool in summer. Yes, you read that right. Wool is like the Swiss Army knife of fabrics—breathable, moisture-wicking, and somehow always staying fresh. And the best part? Wool doesn’t throw a tantrum after one wear. It’s wrinkle-resistant, odour-proof, and doesn’t pill like some other materials (looking at you, cheap synthetic fabrics). Wool ages like a fine wine—getting better with every wear. Your woollen pieces will be the ones you keep reaching for, while everything else sits in the back of your closet, looking sad and forgotten.

From Gundagai to the World

Two recent consignments from Kardinia were processed through the Gundagai Meats DEXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) program—an advanced technology that uses X-ray imaging to deliver precise measurements of lean meat yield, intramuscular fat (IMF), and overall animal health. This cutting-edge system provides unparalleled transparency and data-driven insights, allowing producers to better understand and improve the quality of their livestock. The results from our consignments were outstanding, with 88% of our lambs receiving bonuses—an exceptional outcome when compared to the industry-wide average of just 22% across all breeds. At Kardinia, our core business objective is to consistently deliver a premium lamb product to market. Gundagai Lamb’s unique approach to rewarding producers based on measurable quality outcomes aligns perfectly with this goal. Unlike many traditional marketing channels, Gundagai Lamb incentivizes excellence by directly linking producer returns to carcass quality metrics such as lean yield and IMF. This not only motivates continual improvement but also fosters a culture of accountability and innovation within the supply chain. What truly distinguishes Gundagai Lamb is their commitment to expanding global market access while prioritizing the consumer’s eating experience.

Kardinia Ram – Sire KD.18.1917 a standout

A top-tier sire evaluation trial has confirmed what many Dohne breeders already know—the breed delivers the goods when it comes to wool, carcase, fertility, and eating quality. Run through the Australian Merino Sire Evaluation Association (AMSEA), the three-year trial put 12 Dohne sires and two Merino link sires to the test. Alongside wool and carcass traits, the trial also looked at newer measures like udder and teat size, lambs weaned per ewe joined, and intramuscular fat for meat quality. This was the first trial of its kind for the Australian Dohne Breeders Association (ADBA), backed by support from Australian Wool Innovation, Sheep Genetics, MLA, and the University of New England. Kardinia 181917 has made a real mark this season, coming out on top across several AMSEA indexes. It led the way in the Dual Purpose Plus, Merino Production Plus, and Wool Production Plus categories, and also scored highly on the Dohne Plus index. “This ram really has it all,” “From fibre diameter and fertility to carcase traits, it’s ticking the right boxes. On top of that, it stood out visually too—with the highest percentage of tops and the lowest number of culls.” https://dohne.com.au/comprehensive-sire-evaluation-quantifies-the-dohne-dual-purpose-advantage/
