2019 Newletter

What an interesting and sometimes challenging time the Australian sheep industry has experienced over the last 12 months. With such a diverse Kardinia client base across different states we are hearing the weather has certainly created some extremes. The lamb market is certainly buoyant with a strong positive outlook on the domestic and global platform and records will continue to be achieved. Fluctuating wool sales with some curious trends otherwise masked by China’s dominance emerged but hopefully will settle and confidence by global players will return. Continue reading

2018 Newsletter

Welcome to the Kardinia Dohne Stud 2018 newsletter. Increased prices for wool and lamb have seen records broken even with the lack of rainfall in some areas. We are receiving lots of positive feedback about how Dohne’s are performing producing prime lambs and quality wool and one passionate grower conducted their own mini trial using a combination of Dohne’s Merino’s and Poll Merino’s. Overall gross per ewe averaged out over the 100 in each group was as follows. Continue reading

Prime lamb flavour over fast growth at “Carnbre”

The Andrew’s family began their Dohne prime lamb operation six years ago after deciding the existing Merino base was not reaching the prime lamb market potential. Jarrod Andrews, “Carnbrae”, Tocumwal, and his parents Jeff and Jenny, run 4000 Dohne ewes on a 1092 hectare property. Continue reading

Finishing ability proves a winner in Tassie

The weight gain and finishing ability of the Dohne has turned a Tasmanian wool and first cross lamb enterprise on its head. Askin and Cate Morrison ran a traditional fine wool enterprise in the Midlands but consistently had trouble finishing lambs to a saleable 13-18kg dressed weight before the harsh winters set in.
